Old, failing siding costs you more the longer it stays up. SOS Roofing and Siding helps Mount Sterling homeowners understand their options, choose the right material, and complete replacement with minimal disruption.
When to Replace
Most homeowners wait too long to replace siding, which turns a straightforward project into a more expensive repair involving moisture damage and structural issues.
Bubbles beneath the surface indicate trapped moisture — a sign water has already infiltrated behind your siding and the panels can no longer do their job.
When your siding's color has deteriorated past the point that a fresh coat of paint would help, the material itself has reached the end of its useful life.
Sections that are pulling away from the wall or visibly bowing have lost their structural integrity. This problem gets worse with each weather cycle.
Any gap you can see between panels or at trim intersections is a point where your exterior envelope has failed. These rarely stay small on their own.
Siding that needs paint every two to three years is absorbing moisture and swelling, which breaks the paint bond. The fix isn't a better paint product — it's new siding.
Deteriorating siding loses its insulating value and develops gaps and cracks that increase air exchange between inside and outside. If your energy bills have risen without a clear cause, your exterior could be a factor.

Siding Replacement Services
Full replacement gives us access to the entire exterior, which means we can address any moisture damage, add continuous insulation if desired, and ensure your new siding performs at the level the manufacturer intends. The finished result looks cohesive and lasts as long as the product is rated for.
Learn MoreNot every replacement project requires a full exterior teardown. When damage is isolated to specific sections and the surrounding siding is in solid condition, we can replace only the affected panels. We match profiles and colors carefully to minimize visual inconsistency.
Learn MoreOver-installation is not appropriate for every home, and we won't recommend it unless it genuinely makes sense for your property. We inspect the current substrate condition, check moisture readings, and review local code requirements before advising this path.

What You Should Know
The conversation around Siding Replacement often starts with a cost question, but experienced Mount Sterling homeowners quickly learn that the real question is about timing. Keeping deteriorating siding on a home longer than it should stay there doesn't preserve the money you're trying to save — it compounds the cost. What starts as weathered, faded panels can become a moisture infiltration problem that reaches your sheathing, your insulation, and eventually your interior walls. At that point, the project costs significantly more than a straightforward replacement would have.
Curb appeal and resale value are practical considerations that often get underweighted when homeowners are evaluating a replacement project. In competitive real estate markets across Mount Sterling, OH, updated exterior siding consistently ranks as one of the renovation projects with the strongest return on investment. A well-chosen siding product in a color that complements the home's architectural style can meaningfully improve a property's first impression — and first impressions drive offers.
Choosing the right material for a Mount Sterling home means thinking about what your exterior actually faces through the seasons. Vinyl's primary advantage is low maintenance and cost, but standard vinyl can become brittle in sustained extreme cold and may not handle high-impact weather as well as fiber cement or engineered wood. Fiber cement is the most impact-resistant common siding material, holds paint color exceptionally well, and is non-combustible — a meaningful advantage in fire-prone areas of Mount Sterling, OH. Engineered wood products offer a natural wood appearance with engineered moisture and pest resistance, making them popular with homeowners who want warmth and texture without the maintenance of real wood.
What the installation day actually looks like for a Mount Sterling homeowner is worth describing plainly. Our crew arrives in the morning, does a brief walkthrough to confirm the scope, and sets up protection for your landscaping and any areas adjacent to the work zone. Old siding is pulled off methodically, loaded into a container or truck, and kept off your lawn and walkways throughout the day. The sheathing and house wrap are inspected before any new material goes up. Any issues found in the substrate are shown to you before work proceeds.
For homeowners in Mount Sterling who are navigating the decision between contractors, we recommend asking every bidder for a few specific things: a copy of their liability insurance certificate and workers' compensation documentation, a written estimate that itemizes labor and materials separately, and references from similar projects completed in your area. Contractors who hesitate on any of those requests should be treated with caution. The siding replacement market has a reasonable number of operators who cut corners on insurance or substrate preparation in ways that create expensive problems down the road for homeowners. SOS Roofing and Siding provides all documentation before any project starts and is happy to connect you with past clients in Mount Sterling and across Mount Sterling, OH.

Speak With Our TeamMost standard homes in Mount Sterling take between two and five days for a full replacement. Home size, the selected material, and the condition of the substrate all affect the timeline. We give you a realistic project window during the estimate so you can plan accordingly.
The repair-vs-replace decision comes down to how widespread the damage is and the age of the existing siding. Isolated damage on siding that's otherwise in solid shape is often worth repairing. But systemic problems — widespread fading, multiple failed panels, chronic moisture readings — usually make replacement the more economical choice over five to ten years.
New siding can improve your home's thermal performance, particularly if you choose an insulated product with foam backing or if the existing siding had developed gaps and cracks. The improvement is more significant when the old siding was in particularly poor condition. We're careful not to project specific savings figures since results vary by home and how it's used.
We assess storm damage thoroughly, document every affected area, and provide a clear written scope of work that supports your insurance claim. We don't make guarantees about claim outcomes, but we make sure the documentation is accurate and complete.
